There are places where time stands still… Le Negresco, the crown jewel of the Promenade des Anglais, is poised to pen one of its most audacious chapters.
In June 2025, the mythical hotel will unveil the renovation of its sixth floor, the former private sanctuary of Jeanne Augier. These rooms, defined by the bold elegance of their owner, will be transformed into a magnificent suite: The Jeanne & Paul Penthouse Suite.
This project, marking the crowning achievement of Le Negresco, subtly epitomises the very essence of its history. By reimagining the sixth floor, it celebrates the hotel’s soul and its visionary spirit.
A Voyage Between Dream and Reality
The following lines extend an invitation to enter. Stepping into the Jeanne & Paul Suite is akin to embarking on a timeless journey, where the elegance of heritage merges seamlessly with contemporary refinement. More than a mere tribute, it encapsulates the essence of Le Negresco, ensuring that time does not stand still but is celebrated, reinvented, and perpetuated.
This remarkable space has been entirely reimagined by architect and designer Jean-Philippe Nuel, who also conceived the splendid N Le Spa. ‘Beyond beauty, it is about imbuing a sense of meaning that blends harmoniously with Le Negresco and the city of Nice,’ he states. Suspended between the sky and the sea, this 400 square metres (4,306 sq ft) showcase offers a breathtaking 180-degree view over the Baie des Anges.
Beneath the iconic dome, the salon unfolds in all its splendour, offering the perfect venue for entertainment and contemplation. The interior features several rooms specifically designed by Jean-Philippe Nuel, utilising materials from renowned French designers, including Duvivier, a company founded in 1840. The natural flow of the space guides guests through harmonious volumes and cleverly arranged, distinct areas.
On one side, the Paul Suite, designed as an elegant junior suite, exudes a refined and intimate character. On the other side, the Jeanne Suite opens into a bright bedroom, a serene library, and an office area with state-of-the-art amenities.
Every detail narrates a quest for perfection, where authenticity becomes an art form. Through subtle dialogue, various materials unite harmoniously: the sculptural purity of Carrara marble whispers to the elegance of precious woods, while the stars of Lelièvre, certified Living Heritage Company, and Pierre Frey radiate sophistication imbued with tradition. ‘We aim to collaborate with local partners who have already contributed to the reputation of Le Negresco, to maintain a relationship of trust, and to promote exceptional expertise,’ explains Jean-Philippe Nuel.
The artworks in Jeanne Augier’s collection showcase her discerning taste for various artistic movements. Outside, three private terraces spanning over 200 square metres (2,153 sq ft) engage with the horizon while a jacuzzi beyond them beckons guests to extend their relaxation. The cerulean tones of the terrace evoke the golden hour of the Riviera.
A Theater for Extraordinary Moments
The Jeanne & Paul Penthouse Suite is transformed into a living canvas, ready to welcome the stories that each guest wishes to share. With its capacity to host exclusive private events, it is ideally suited for intimate gatherings, film shoots, or moments of pure delight.
A private kitchen, a genuine culinary workshop, presents gourmet delights created by the talented MICHELIN-starred chef Virginie Basselot, adding an exclusive, indulgent, and memorable dimension to the experience.
The Dawn of a New Era
This metamorphosis represents part of a renovation project that commenced in 2020 under the vigilant oversight of the Architectes des Bâtiments de France, who ensured that every stone and curve was restored to its original splendour. Le Negresco will continue its renovation journey until May 2025, weaving its destiny through the ages. Like a continuously evolving piece of art, its legend remains ever-dynamic: it perpetuates and reinvents itself while staying true to its heritage.
